Ole men fall in semifinals

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Top-seeded St. Thomas held off St. Olaf 2-1 in the semifinal round of the MIAC men's hockey playoffs on Saturday night at St. Thomas Arena.

Alex Altenbernd scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the Tommies' other score. Altenbernd's goal came at 13:17 of the second in a clean game that had only three penalties.

St. Olaf (12-11-4) had a brief lead when Andrew Anderson scored on assists from Nick Marsh and Jonas Frederiksson at 14:17 of the first. UST (20-4-2) responded with a goal from Tyler Gubb at 17:38 on assists from Altenbernd and Alex Niestrom.

St. Thomas will face Gustavus Adolphus College in the event's championship next Saturday.
