Softball drops two to UW-Stout to open 2014

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - Haley Schreier went a combined 5-for-7 but St. Olaf dropped both ends of its season-opening softball doubleheader with UW-Stout, 2-0 and 9-7, at the Irish Dome on Wednesday morning.

Game One: UW-Stout 2, St. Olaf 0
The Bluedevils had single runs in the second and third innings and St. Olaf stranded six in the shutout loss. Sam Hastings, Kaitlin Stark and Nicole Rogers each went 2-for-3 for UW-Stout.

Game Two: UW-Stout 9, St. Olaf 7
Schreier went 4-for-4, Becca Walz 2-for-4 with four runs and Stephanie Borndale homered for St. Olaf (0-2) in the loss.

UW-Stout scored all nine runs in two innings, five in the third and four in the fifth. St. Olaf scored three in the first inning and was within a run before the Bluedevils' four-run outburst in the fifth.

The Oles had the tying runs on base in the seventh, after a RBI double by Brooke Paradise with two outs.
