Wintheiser's second-place finish highlights Ole Men's weekend at NCAA's

LINCOLN, Neb. - Grant Wintheiser's runner-up performance in the 3,000 meter capped off a successful weekend for the three Ole men competing in the NCAA Divsion III Indoor Track Championships at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Wintheiser came across with a time of 8:11.83, just over a second behind first-place John Crain from North Central (8:10.40) in Saturday afternoon's final. The junior from Sartell, Minn. held the second-fastest time in the country entering the weekend as well, clocking in at 8:11.42.

In Friday's mile run preliminaries, sophomore Paul Escher came up just shy of qualifying for the finals. Escher finished 11th with a time of 4:15.03, with the top 10 runners advancing to the final heat on Saturday.

The other MIAC representative in the mile, Zach Haskins of Bethel, turned in the fastest preliminary time (4:12.43) before finishing seventh in the final with a 4:10.69. Bowdoin's Coby Horowitz won the event crossing in 4:08.40.

Jake Campbell participated in Friday's 5,000 meter final, ending up 12th with a time of 14:40.66. Campbell was one of only three sophomores competing in the event and the only runner from the MIAC. John Crain finished first with a time of 14:06.73.

The outdoor track season will begin for both the Ole men and women when they cross the river to compete in the Carleton Invite on April 5.
