MINNEAPOLIS - St. Olaf head men's basketball coach Dan Kosmoski was named the D3hoops.com West Region Coach of the Year on Monday, after leading St. Olaf to a MIAC Playoff championship and trip to the NCAA Division III tournament.

The MIAC postseason title was the first basketball championship of any kind at St. Olaf since the men's team shared the 1988-89 MIAC regular season crown. The Oles finished 22-6 overall and 17-3 in MIAC play. The team's 22 wins and 17 wins in MIAC play were each the most in school history.

Kosmoski is in his 20th season at St. Olaf. The Oles' win in the MIAC Playoff title game was his 500th game at St. Olaf.

St. Olaf reached the D3hoops.com Top 25 at No. 25 on March 4, which was the first time in the poll's existence. Through games played by March 9, St. Olaf ranks fourth in the country in team defense (58.5 ppg), fifth in turnover margin (+6.0) and 12th in scoring margin (+13.9).
