Softball loses twice to SMU

ST. PETER, Minn. - Saint Mary's University swept a MIAC softball doubleheader from St. Olaf, taking the opener 3-0 and the second game 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at Hollingsworth Field at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Game One: Saint Mary's 3, St. Olaf 0
Ashley Betzold tossed a two-hit shutout and Micaela Meredith delivered the go-ahead RBI in the sixth inning as SMU won the opener 3-0. SMU's Alex Raske went 3-for-3 with a double, walk and a run.
St. Olaf had two runners reach third base, in the fourth and fifth innings, but Betzold pitched her way out of each jam.
Abbey Smith and Woo Bandel had the Oles' two hits in the loss.
Danielle Collins scattered nine hits in the loss. She worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first and held the Cardinals scoreless until the two-run sixth.
Game Two: Saint Mary's 10, St. Olaf 3
Brooke Paradise hit a three-run homer for the Oles, but SMU jumped to a 6-0 lead and completed the sweep with a 10-3 win.
Paradise's homer cut the Cardinal lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the second. Smith went 2-for-2 while Natalie Mironov was 1-for-2 in the loss for the Oles (0-10, 0-2 MIAC).
Kristen Thelen was 4-for-4 with four runs and Alex Raske 2-for-4 with five RBIs in the victory for SMU (6-8, 2-2 MIAC), which had 13 hits in the win.
