Walz walk-off homer lifts Oles to sweep of SCU

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Becca Walz hit a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead St. Olaf to a 6-3 win in game two and MIAC softball sweep of visiting St. Catherine University on Friday afternoon.
Game One: St. Olaf 9, St. Catherine 1
Afton Wolter, Brooke Paradise and Stephanie Borndale had two hits each as St. Olaf scored four times in the fifth inning and three times in the sixth to pick up the run-rule win. Borndale had three RBIs, including the game-winning single with two outs in the sixth.
Danielle Collins allowed a run on four hits and a walk in six innings as the Oles won for the first time.
Game Two: St. Olaf 6, St. Catherine 3 (8 inn.)
Walz was 3-for-4 with a run as one of four Oles with multi-hit games. Woo Bandel, Alex Lebens and Haley Schreier had two hits each.
St. Olaf held a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning before the Wildcats (5-15, 3-5 MIAC) scored three on three hits and two St. Olaf errors to send it to extra innings. Lindsey Klein was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI for SCU.
Collins came in relief of St. Olaf starter Natalie Mironov in the seventh and worked 1 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
