Ole men hit national times at Phil Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Five athletes from the St. Olaf men's track and field team crossed the finish line with top ranking national times at the Phil Esten Challenge on Friday evening.
In the 1500 race, Grant Wintheiser finished second in a field of 32 athletes, one tenth of a second behind McKena Ramos of UW-Oshkosh. Wintheiser's time of 3:48.69 ranks him third in the nation in the event, less than a second behind the top competitor. It also places him second on the St. Olaf all-time list. Wintheiser is also ranked fifth in the 5K race after running a time of 14:19.48 at the UW-Platteville Invitational on April 11. His time set the new St. Olaf record in the event.
Teammate Paul Escher finished less than a second behind Wintheiser in 3:49.43. His time ranks him seventh nationally and third all-time at St. Olaf. Sophomore Jake Campbell also competed in the event, placing fifth with a time of 3:52.40. Campbell ranks 18th nationally. In the 5K, he ranks 25th at 14:37.74.
Phil Meyer competed in the 10K, finishing third in 31:06.74. His time ranks 25th nationally in the event and fourth on the St. Olaf all-time list.
Dillon Davis finished third in the 3K steeplechase. He crossed the line with a time of 9:32.91 which ranks in the top 50 times in the nation and eighth all-time at St. Olaf.
The Ole men next compete at the MAC Twilight on April 24th and the SMU Open on April 26th.
