No. 12 Carleton sweeps volleyball in MIAC regular season finale

No. 12 Carleton College defeated St. Olaf 30-28, 30-22 and 30-27 on Wednesday at West Gymnasium to claim their third straight win over St. Olaf and second straight ten win MIAC season.

The Knights, 21-3 overall and 10-1 in MIAC play, had no players in double digits for kills. They did, however, hit .231 while St. Olaf hit just .135 in the loss.

St. Olaf had the serve with the game 28-28 in game one, and again in game three with a 26-24 lead.

The Oles had 13 serving and eight serve receive errors.

Audrey Volstad (Jr., Hanley Falls, Minn./YME) had 37 set assists and 10 digs to lead St. Olaf (12-11, 5-6). Andrea Otteman (Jr., Ames, Iowa) added 12 and first year Christine Brook (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) 11 kills.

Jaime Lykken (Sr., Edina, Minn.) had 17 digs and Heather LaChapelle (So., Eagan, Minn.) and Rachel Popielarz (So., Pacific Palisades, Calif./Marlborough) collected 17 set assists apiece for the Knights.

Carleton, the second seed in the MIAC tournament, will host the winner between the fourth and fifth seed on Thurs., Nov. 3.

St. Olaf will play at third-seeded Concordia-Moorhead College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Oles lost a five-game match to the Cobbers on Oct. 15.
