Oles upset No. 12 Concordia in first round of MIAC's

St. Olaf battled from a 21-10 deficit and gained a 33-31 game three win to complete a sweep over No. 12 Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday in the first round of the MIAC Tournament in Moorhead, Minn.
After taking the first two games 30-22 and 30-25, St. Olaf (14-10) fell behind 13-5 and 21-10 in the deciding game three.
Andrea Otteman (Jr., Ames, Iowa) had a team-high 18 kills and to lead four Oles in double digits.
Otteman had seven kills in game one, eight in game three and a team-best 22 digs.
St. Olaf advances to the semifinals, where they will play at top-seeded St. Thomas on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Audrey Volstad (Jr., Hanley Falls, Minn./YME) had 54 set assists for St. Olaf.
Ashley Dennis (Jr., Billings, Mont.) had 11, while Danica Finseth (Sr., Chatfield, Minn.) and Christine Brook (Fy, Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) had 10 apiece.
Becca Shane's (Jr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) 15 kills led the Cobbers(21-4).
It is the Oles third appearance in the five-year history of the event. They won the crown in 2002 and finished second in 2001. The win by fifth-seeded St. Olaf is also the first time a lower-seeded team won in the opening round.
