Men's Cross Country
- Dubuol Ruon won the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday to lead the host Oles to a third place finish as a team.
- Ruon won the meet with a 25:34 8k... Cullen O'Neill was second for the Oles and ninth overall, crossing the finish line in 26:42... Also scoring for the team were Jon Lambert (27:01), David Green (27:10), and Chris Rivers (27:39).
- The team will compete next at the Blugold Invite in Colfax, Wis. on Oct. 3.
Women's Cross Country
- St. Olaf senior Annie Knutson was named the MIAC's Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday after leading the Oles to a second place finish at the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday.
- Knutson, who has been the team's top runner in each of the Oles' three races this season, was the top NCAA Division III runner in the event, finishing fourth on the 6K course in 23:08... Knutson and her mom have a unique tie to the coaches at St. Olaf... Annie's mom was coached by Phil Lundin, the Oles' new head men's track and cross country coach, in high school and Chris Daymont (current WCross Country, Track Coach) in college at St. Olaf.
- St. Olaf will run in the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday in St. Paul.
Football
- St. Olaf (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) outlasted the University of St. Thomas 29-23 in six overtimes on Saturday to reach 3-0 for the fourth straight season... The six overtime game was the longest in Division III, and one of ten games in any NCAA division, since the NCAA went to the current overtime format in 1996.
- Coty Watkins caught the game-tying score with 4:44 left in regulation and had the game-winning 16-yard touchdown run in the sixth overtime to lead the Oles to the win.... Watkins rushed for 137 yards on 32 carries... He has now rushed for over 100 yards in each of the team's three games... His three 100-yard performances are more than the team had in four of the last six seasons.
- With the win over UST, St. Olaf has now won four straight against the Tommies for the first time in series history.
- The St. Olaf defense allowed only 49 yards on 41 carries in Saturday's victory... Through three games, the Oles are allowing 1.5 yards a rush (133 yards on 90 attempts), which leads the MIAC... The team has 19 tackles for a loss, led by Michael Williams Jr. who had 5.0 in the win over UST.
- The Ole defense leads the league in total defense (205.0 yards/game), rushing defense (44.0 yards/game) and red zone defense (opponents 3-for-9).
- St. Olaf plays at Augsburg College on Saturday at 1 p.m. St. Olaf has won four straight against the Auggies, who are 2-0 after an upset win over then No. 20 Wartburg.
Men's Golf
- The St. Olaf men's golf team was second at its Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, led by the event's individual winner, Bror Herrick... The two-round 152 (76-76, +8) gave Herrick a one-stroke win over Gustavus' Robert Schmidt, his first collegiate win and second top five finish of 2008... Herrick's rounds of 76 were each season bests.
- Mack Traynor was two strokes off the winning pace (78-76, +10), finishing fourth.
- St. Olaf competes next in the Twin Cities Classic at Elk River CC and The Links in Elk River, Minn. and Ramsey, Minn.
Women's Golf
- The St. Olaf women's golf team was idle this week.
- St. Olaf is off until next month's MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills Golf Course, Oct. 5-7.
Men's Soccer
- The St. Olaf men's soccer team (5-2-0, 2-0-0 MIAC) lost a non-conference match with Wartburg College on Wednesday before returning to MIAC play with a 2-1 win over Macalester College on Saturday.
- Nathan Swenson had a goal and an assist for the Oles, who picked up just their third win over Macalester in 12 games since November of 1998.
- The goal was Swenson's first of the season... He shares the team lead for assists with John Zietlow with four.
- Zietlow assisted on the goal and leads the MIAC in almost every offensive category: shots (4.43/gm), points (20), goals (8) and assists (4).
- St. Olaf plays at Augsburg College on Tuesday before hosting Saint John's on Saturday.
Women's Soccer
- The St. Olaf women's soccer team (4-3-0, 1-1-0 MIAC) dropped its second and third games in four outings with a 2-0 loss to Wartburg on Wednesday and a 1-0 MIAC loss on Saturday at Macalester College.
- The Oles play a pair of MIAC games this week. Wednesday, the team hosts Augsburg College at 4 p.m. before a road game at Saint Ben's on Saturday.
Volleyball
- The St. Olaf volleyball team (10-4, 1-1 MIAC) split its first two MIAC matches, losing a four-set match at No. 8 St. Thomas on Wendesday before a four-set win over the College of St. Catherine on Friday.
- The Oles' Jess Levin had 16 and 12 kills in the week's matches... She has hit double figures for kills in seven of the last nine outings after none in the team's first five... She's hitting a career-best .289 through 14 matches.
- Kim Smisek had a match-best 19 kills in Friday's win over St. Kate's... She leads the MIAC in kills (3.66/game) and has already surpassed 500 career kills (567) in 37 matches.
- Kelly Prunty is third in the league in set assists (10.27/set).
- St. Olaf plays host to Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday before playing a four-game event at Central College in Pella, Iowa this weekend.

Men's Cross Country
