Men's Cross Country
- After a week off from competition, the Oles finished second at the BluGold Open on Friday... Dubuol Ruon won his second consecutive individual meet title... The Oles are off from competion until October 18.
Women's Cross Country
- The St. Olaf women's cross country team finished fourth out of 16 teams at the Blugold Open on Friday in Colfax, Wis... The Oles' fourth place finish was their third top four finish of the season... Junior Nellie Adams (23:43) was a team-best 18th overall. First year Hannah Dennis (23:52) was 25th and senior Katie Duwell (23:59) 27th in the race, which featured the University of Minnesota, UMD and Winona State.
- The Oles travel to Waverly, Iowa on Saturday morning for the Don Houston Invitational.
Football
- St. Olaf (3-2, 1-2 MIAC) dropped a 21-7 decision to Carleton on Saturday snapping the Oles' 11-game winning streak over the crosstown college, dating to the 1996 season.
- St. Olaf trailed 21-0 before Leon Clark took two direct snaps for a combined 80 yards and a score to cut the deficit to 21-7... The Carleton defense then held St. Olaf on its final five drives of the game, forcing the Oles to turn it over on downs four times... In the game, the Oles were a combined 3-for-19 on third and fourth down conversions.
- St. Olaf plays at Bethel University on Saturday at 1 p.m... St. Olaf has not won at Bethel since 1992.
Men's Golf
- The St. Olaf men's golf team was fifth at the MIAC Championships, which wrapped up on Monday... The Oles were led by Mack Traynor, Charlie Johnson and Chris Conklin, who finished 12th, 14th and 16th in the three-day event.
- Traynor shot a 78 on Monday after back-to-back 76's in the first two rounds. Conklin had his best round of the event in the final day, firing a 76.
- St. Olaf was one stroke behind Bethel for fourth and 14 behind third place Augsburg.
Women's Golf
- The St. Olaf women's golf team had their best round on Monday and finished seventh at the three-day MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills Golf Course... The Oles' team total of 340 on Monday was their best by 25 strokes in the event.
- Alyssa Zuehl was the Oles' best finisher, shooting an 81 in the final day to finish 22nd overall... Each of the Oles' five players shot their best round in the final day including Britta Hendrickson, who was a 26th after her final round 86.
Men's Soccer
- The St. Olaf men's soccer (6-4-0, 3-2-0 MIAC) team defeated Concordia 3-2 on Wednesday in overtime... The Oles' John Zietlow had an assist and two goals, including the game-winner with 1:32 left in double overtime, to help St. Olaf stop a two-game losing streak.
- Zietlow leads the MIAC in points (25), goals (10), shots (4.8/game) and is fifth in assists (5).
- St. Olaf plays at Bethel University on Wednesday before a weekend trip to California to play Chapman University and Pomona-Pitzer.
Women's Soccer
- The St. Olaf women's soccer team (6-4-1) defeated Concordia 2-0 on Wednesday and the College of St. Catherine 2-1 in overtime on Saturday to move to 3-2-1 in MIAC play.
- Wednesday's win stopped a four-game winless streak, handed the visiting Cobbers (7-1-3) their first loss of 2008 and was the Oles first over Concordia since 2002.
- The Oles host Bethel on Tuesday before a weekend trip to California where they'll play Chapman University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Volleyball
- The St. Olaf volleyball team lost a pair of five-set matches on the road at ranked opponents this week... The Oles first dropped a 3-2 match at No. 22 Saint Ben's on Wednesday before another five-set defeat at No. 15 Concordia on Friday... Four of the team's losses during their five-match losing streak have come in a decisive fifth set... St. Olaf is 2-5 in five-set matches this fall.
- Jess Levin had 14 and 16 kills in the Oles' losses this week to extend her doubl-digit kill streak to nine matches.
- St. Olaf hosts Saint Mary's University on Wednesday before playing in the MIAC-IIAC Border Battle on Friday and Saturday in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
