Men's Basketball
- The St. Olaf men's basketball team dropped an exhibition game at Division II Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday... The Oles' Bobby Fong had a game-best 16 points... Fellow first years Mark Wieloch and Alfie Jaryan added nine each... St. Olaf opens the season on Nov. 15 at Bethany Lutheran College.
Men's Cross Country
- The St. Olaf men's cross country team, behind individual champion Dubuol Ruon, won the MIAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at Como Park... David Green was 12th overall and Cullen O'Neill 13th for the Oles, each earning All-MIAC honors, in the team victory... The MIAC title is the Oles' third overall and second since 2004.
- Ruon held off Macalester's Martin Mudry by four seconds to claim the league's individual crown in his first season of collegiate cross country... He played for the St. Olaf men's soccer team last fall.
- Also scoring for the Oles were Jacob Marotz in 17th and Jon Lambert in 32nd... Marotz sat out most of the season with an injury before running his first race in mid October.
- The team competes next on Nov. 15 at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships in Grinnell, Iowa.
Women's Cross Country
- The St. Olaf women's cross country team was fourth at the MIAC Championships on Saturday afternoon at Como Park.
- The Oles' top runner in the event was senior Annie Knutson, who finished sixth overall... Jenna Carlson, also a senior, was 13th... Each earned all-conference honors.
- Also scoring for St. Olaf were Michaela McLaughlin in 22nd, Katie Duwell in 28th, and Nellie Adams in 35th place.
- The Oles compete again on Nov.15 at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships held in Grinnell, Iowa.
Football
- The St. Olaf (4-4, 1-4 MIAC) team stopped a four-game losing streak with a 28-25 win over then league-leading Concordia in Moorhead on Saturday... Quarterback John Haberman threw for two and ran for another two touchdowns and the St. Olaf defense forced five turnovers in the win.
- St. Olaf has now won three straight against Concordia, the longest streak since winning six in a row over the Cobbers from 1946-1951.
- Antonio Jennings and Leon Clark each caught TD passes in the victory.
- St. Olaf hosts Gustavus, one of three teams atop the MIAC at 4-2, at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Men's Hockey
- The St. Olaf men's hockey team (1-1-0, 0-0-0 MIAC) split its opening weekend games, defeating Lake Forest 7-1 on Friday before falling to defending NCAA Division III Champion St. Norbert 5-2 on Saturday.
- The Oles had goals from six different players in the win over Lake Forest, the team's first to open a season since 2002-03... Dylan Mueller led the way with two goals and an assist.
- In Saturday afternoon's loss to St. Norbert, the Oles led 1-0 on a Nick Stalock goal and were within a pair of scores until the No. 1 Green Knights (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) added an empty net goal in the final minute.
- St. Olaf plays twice this weekend, each away from Northfield Ice Arena... On Friday, the Oles play at UW-River Falls... The team meets UW-Stout on Saturday in Buffalo, Minn.

- The St. Olaf men's soccer (10-7-1, 4-5-1 MIAC) defeated Bethany Lutheran 9-0 on Tuesday before closing the season with a 2-0 loss at Carleton on Saturday.
- Tuesday's win marked the tenth double-digit win season under head coach Kurt Anderson (21st season).
- The Oles John Zietlow finished the regular season leading the MIAC in points (39) and assists (13) while finishing second in goals (13)... Nathan Swenson, who had a pure hat trick in the Oles' win on Tuesday, finished seventh in the league in points with 21.
Women's Soccer
- The St. Olaf women's soccer team (8-9-1, 5-5-1 MIAC) dropped its final two games of 2008, a 2-0 decision to No. 12 St. Thomas on Wednesday and a 3-2 game to Carleton on Saturday.
- The Oles nearly tripled their win total from 2007 (3) and did so with a large first year group... The Oles top four scorers were first years and ten of the top 12 were first years or sophomores.
- Lindsay Howard led the team with nine goals and 20 points.
Men's Swimming and Diving
- The St. Olaf men's swimming team began its 2008-09 schedule at the Northfield Relays on Saturday at Carleton... The Ole men won all but one event in the meet... The Oles' Nelson Westby, who swam at the US Olympic Trials and the US Open this summer, broke a pool record with his 57.38 in the 100 breast.
- St. Olaf hosts the Northfield Colleges Quad Classic on Saturday at 11 a.m.

- The St. Olaf women's swimming team opened its season at the Northfield Relays on Saturday at Carleton... The Oles finished second in the event's 300-yard breaststroke relay.
- The Oles host the Northfield Colleges Quad Classic on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Volleyball
- The St. Olaf volleyball team (20-11, 6-5 MIAC) split its final two matches of the regular season, defeating Hamline in three sets on Wednesday before dropping a five-set match at Carleton on Saturday.
- The Oles loss to Carleton on Saturday was their eighth of the year (4-8 in five-set matches)... In MIAC play, four of the team's five setbacks were in five sets... The other was a four-set loss to champion St. Thomas on Sept. 17.
- St. Olaf will travel to fourth-seeded and 15th-ranked Concordia in the first round of the six-team MIAC Playoffs on Tuesday... The last trip to the MIAC's was in 2005, when the fifth seeded Oles beat host Concordia in three sets.
- The Oles' Jess Levin is second in the league in hitting percentage (.297) and fourth in kills (3.18/game)... Kim Smisek is second in the MIAC in kills (3.52/game) while setter Kelly Prunty is third in set assists (10.24/game)... Prunty has 1,249 set assists this season, good for ninth all-time at St. Olaf.
