Men's Basketball
- St. Olaf (2-2, 0-1 MIAC) defeated Luther College 80-59 on Monday after a pair of losses last week... No. 8 Buena Vista University, the favorite to win the IIAC defeated visiting St. Olaf 65-60 on Friday and host Hamline held on for a 77-72 victory in the MIAC opener on Tuesday.
- First year Bobby Fong had 19 points in Monday's win over Luther and is leading the team at 17.5 points/game in the early season.
- Eight of the team's 14 players have reached double-digits in points in at least one of the first four games.
- In Friday's loss at No. 8 BVU, the Oles led 58-52 with 5:44 left, but the Beavers went on a 13-2 run to close the game... Mark Torell had 14 points, Bobby Fong 11 and Stu Neville ten to pace St. Olaf.
- St. Olaf had a five-point lead late in Tuesday's loss as well, but cold shooting (4-for-18 from three) spelled the team down the stretch.
- The Oles are off until next Monday, when they travel to New Ulm for a non-conference game at Martin Luther College.
Women's Basketball
- The St. Olaf women's basketball team opened its season with an 80-62 loss at Hamline University on Tuesday... Elyse Erickson had 22 points to lead the Oles (0-1, 0-1 MIAC)... Erickson was 7-for-12 from the field and 8-of-11 from the line.
- Kelsey Oja had a career high 17-point effort and was 4-for-8 from the arc.
- St. Olaf plays at UW-Eau Claire in a two-game event this weekend.
Men's Cross Country
- Dubuol Ruon was 22nd overall to lead St. Olaf to a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
-The Oles' Cullen O'Neill was 88th and David Green 125th in the 278-runner field.
-St. Olaf, which won the MIAC Championships and was third at the Central Regional, was the top finisher from the league and region in the event.
- The race capped a successful first season for St. Olaf head coach Phil Lundin, who was named the MIAC's coach of the year after leading his team to a league title.
Women's Cross Country
- Jenna Carlson was 81st in the 279-runner field at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon.
- Carlson earned a spot in the event with her 11th place run at the Central Region Championship last week... Her 81st place finish was a 38 better than her run at the 2007 championships.
Men's Hockey
- Dylan Mueller and Sam Windsor each scored shorthanded, third period goals to lead the St. Olaf men's hockey team to a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon and series sweep of Gustavus Adolphus College... Windsor, who had a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-2 win, was the MIAC's player of the week for the effort.
- The wins moved St. Olaf (6-2-0) to 4-0-0 in MIAC play for the first time in school history.
- Ole goaltender Nick Krauss is 4-1-1 on the season after his 33-save win on Saturday.
-Isak Tranvik assisted on Mueller's game-tying goal and had one of his own that tied the game at 1-1 at the 0:21 mark of the second period... Tranvik has a team-best 13 points on five goals and eight assists through the team's first eight games... St. Olaf had not defeated Gustavus in regular season play since the 2005-06 season.
Women's Hockey
- Gustavus Adolphus College scored the final three goals in a 4-2 women's hockey win over host St. Olaf on Saturday night at Northfield Ice Arena to complete a two-game MIAC sweep... The Gusties beat St. Olaf 6-0 on Friday.
- In Saturday's loss, St. Olaf (1-4-1, 1-3-0 MIAC) carried a 2-1 lead into the third period after Melissa Sailor's goal broke a 1-1 tie.
- St. Olaf is off next weekend... The Oles return to action on Dec. 5 and 6 with a two MIAC home games against Concordia College-Moorhead.
Wrestling
- Ryan Zimmerman picked up a second place finish, in the silver division, at Saturday's Auggie-Brute Classic at Augsburg College in Minneapolis... Zimmerman was one of two Oles to get a win in Thursday's 39-7 loss to Concordia... Josef Waples was the other.
- St. Olaf competes against RCTC and Waldorf College on Tuesday night at Skoglund Center.
