Men's Basketball
- St. Olaf (3-3, 0-2 MIAC) erased a 16-point deficit to tie the game at 45-45, but lost a 60-52 decision at No. 6 St. Thomas on Saturday in its only game of the week.
- Nate Krosschell had a team-high 11 points off the bench for the Oles, who had 31 of their 52 points from reserves in the loss... Joe Weber, who went 3-for-4 from the arc, and Stu Neville each added nine points.
- Each of the Oles' three losses have come on the road and two, including the loss to UST, have been to teams ranked in the top ten... The other was a five-point loss at No. 8 Buena Vista University.
- St. Olaf hosts Carleton College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Women's Basketball
- St. Olaf (1-4, 0-3 MIAC) dropped a pair of MIAC road games this week - a 75-61 game at St. Catherine on Wednesday before a nine-point loss at St. Thomas on Saturday.
- The Oles are in the midst of a tough stretch to start the season... The team has played all five games away from Skoglund Center and has 11 road games in its first 13... The Oles host Carleton in their home opener on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.
Men's Hockey
- St. Olaf (7-2-1, 5-0-1 MIAC) took three of four points at Concordia College-Moorhead this weekend... The Oles claimed a 3-1 win on Friday before tying the Cobbers on Saturday, 1-1... Bryan Osmondson had two goals to lead the way in Friday's victory.
- Despite Saturday's tie, the Oles remained on top of the MIAC standings as one of the three unbeaten teams... Hamline (4-0-0) and St. Thomas (3-0-1) are the others.
- The Oles are now off until Jan. 2, when they play at UW-Eau Claire in the first of five non-conference games in a nine-day stretch.
Women's Hockey
- St. Olaf (2-5-1, 2-3-1 MIAC) split its MIAC series with Concordia College-Moorhead this weekend, getting a 5-1 win on Friday before dropping a 4-2 game on Saturday.
- Lauren Tomford scored twice to lead the Oles in Friday's win, one that stopped a three-game losing skid.
- The Oles are off until Jan. 4 when they meet Concordia again, in a non-conference game.
Men's Swimming and Diving
- St. Olaf senior Nelson Westby came within hundredths of a second from two NCAA Division III records this weekend at the Carthage Invitational in Kenosha, Wis... Westby came within .08 of a second of the record in his win in the 200 breast on Saturday night, as he and the St. Olaf men's swimming team competed in the final day of the Carthage Invitational... Westby's 1:58.98 in the event broke his meet and pool record by over three seconds and his school record by .94 seconds... On Friday in the 100 breast Westby swam a conservative 57.56 in the prelims and followed with a 54.66 in the finals, a pool record by over two seconds and just .17 off the national record.
- St. Olaf, which was third behind host Carthage and Division II St. Cloud State, had other great performances including those from Chris Bateman... Bateman won the 500 free in a pool record 4:32.20... The time was almost five seconds faster than the previous top mark... He also won the 400 IM by seven-plus seconds while breaking the pool and meet records... Bateman's 4:03.24 is the second-best time in school history, only outdone by head coach Bob Hauck's 3:55.70 in 1987.
- Adam Meyer, who swam on the Oles' winning medley relay teams, won the 100 back with a B cut 51.24 to complete a sweep in the stroke's events.
- St. Olaf is off until Dec. 31 when the team will compete at the Ed Kennedy Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Women's Swimming and Diving
- St. Olaf was fifth at the Carthage Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Kenosha, Wis.
- Alli Beardsley turned in the Oles' top swim of the night on Friday with her fourth place effort in the 200 IM... Kjersten Grinde and Beardsley were seventh and eighth in the 100 breast.
- Beardsley had the best swim on Saturday as well, as she finished third in the 400 IM... Grinde added a fifth place swim in the 200 breast while first year Lauren Snyder a sixth place finish in the 200 free.
- St. Olaf is off until Dec. 31 when the team will compete at the Ed Kennedy Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Wrestling
- St. Olaf 133-pounder Ryan Timmerman won his weight class at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Saturday afternoon and teammate Josef Waples was 3rd at 165.
- Timmerman won by fall in his first three matches before a 6-0 decision in the final.
- Waples went 4-1, winning his first two before a winner's bracket semifinals loss. He responded with two wins in the consolation bracket to finish third.
- St. Olaf hosts Saint John's on Saturday at 7 p.m.
