St. Olaf College women's basketball team falls to Concordia-Moorhead in 64-60 nail-biter

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The St. Olaf College women's basketball team won the first half against Concordia-Moorhead but lost the second in a nail-biting, 64-60 Cobber victory in Skoglund Center Wednesday night. St. Olaf shook off a slow start in the first half to take a 29-26 advantage at halftime, but that lead wasn't enough. The Cobbers outscored the Oles 11-0 in the first five minutes of the second half, taking control of the game.

But Coach Pat Buresh's team refused to give up, trimming the Cobber lead to two points with less than a minute remaining. With five seconds left the Oles attempted a three-pointer to win, but couldn't connect on the magical shot. The Cobbers then converted two free throws for the winning margin of 64-60.

Liz Mundahl (FY, Eagan, Minn.) and junior post Elisa Hatlevig (junior, Rushford, Minn.) each put in 14 points for St. Olaf. Hatlevig also grabbed six rebounds. Concordia's Kasey Bostow led all scorers with 18 points.

St. Olaf is 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Concordia-Moorhead improves to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC. On Saturday, Jan. 15, the Ole women travel to Augsburg for a 3 p.m. game, and two days later, on Monday, Jan. 17, St. Olaf plays at Hamline (7:30 p.m.).
