THE HAUCK FILE 1987: Began coaching career at St. Olaf after a swimming career in which he was a 23-time All-American and set three national records. 1988: Trained for US Olympic Trials and was ranked in the top 25 in the world in the 200 Backstroke. 1989: Joined St. Olaf coaching staff. 1997-98: Took one year stint as assitant coach at Brown University. 1998: Inducted into the St. Olaf College Hall of Fame. |
As a head coach, Hauck has led St. Olaf to a combined 17 MIAC Championships, nine on the men's side and eight for the women.
During his four years of competition at St. Olaf, Hauck won seven individual national titles and set three national records. As a two-time captain of the Oles, he was a 23-time All-American and was named 1987 NCAA Division III Swimmer of the Year. In the fall of 1998, Hauck was inducted into the St. Olaf College Hall of Fame.
Hauck went to train for the 1988 US Olympic Trials in Santa Barbara, Calif. where he became one of the premier backstrokers in the country and was ranked in the top 25 in the world in the 200 Back. He has been a multiple senior national finalist and U.S. Open finalist. In 1987-88, he was a member of the United States Post-Graduate Naitonal Team. Hauck also swam internationally for Athletes in Action in the summer of 1989.
Hauck lives in Northfield with his wife Karna, their sons Cully and Marcus and daughters Signe, Tatum and Josey.
