St. Olaf College Women's Tennis Recruit Center

FALL SEASON: Early September - mid October
In the fall, decisions are made regarding who makes the varsity team. Approximately ten people try-out for each team. Two to four players are chosen to join the existing team. Selection is based primarily on singles play. Try-outs last usually around one week. Those who do not make the team are encouraged to join the intermediate tennis class or find other tennis plying students to play on a regular basis. Those who make the team join the existing team members for the remaining four weeks of our fall season. Our conference restricts us to playing in two competitive events in the fall. The plan is to play one scrimmage and a regional tournament.

WINTER SEASON: mid October - mid January
The winter season is the time when players work on improving their games. NCAA and conference regulations prohibit the coach working with their players in the off-season. The Skoglund Fieldhouse (five indoor courts) and Tostrud Center (four indoor courts) schedules are emailed to the players so they can determine when the facility is open for play. Players are also encouraged to weight train and keep in shape during the off-season.

SPRING SEASON: end of January - last weekend in April
This is our main season. We will be generally practicing Monday through Friday. Our matches each week will typically be on Friday nights or Saturdays. We take Sundays off. The tennis program is designed so players miss very few classes. We take a spring break tennis trip every other year. Our conference tournament is during the last Friday and Saturday of April.
