Rob McCarthy is an assistant for the men's track and field team. In the fall, McCarthy will enter 2006 football season as his 18th season coaching, and his fifth season as Defensive Coordinator for St. Olaf College. McCarthy, a 1989 graduate of Concordia College, began his coaching career in 1989 as an assistant coach at Concordia. In the fall of 1990, he joined the coaching staff at the University of St. Thomas where he served as outside linebacker and defensive line coach from 1990-1994. In 1995, McCarthy was the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Northwestern. In 1998, McCarthy earned his Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire, while serving as their defensive line coach. Before coming to St. Olaf in the fall of 2002, McCarthy spent one year as the defensive coordinator at a Florida high school.

McCarthy and his wife Angie live in Northfield with their son Zach.
