In 2008, Cindy Book will begin her 16th season as head coach at St. Olaf in the top ten in terms of wins (599) and in the top 35 in winning percentage in NCAA Division III volleyball history.

Under Book, the Oles have been one of the most prolific volleyball programs in the midwest, capturing five MIAC regular season titles and seven NCAA Tournament berths. St. Olaf was third in the MIAC in Book's first campaign in 1991 and the Oles finished first or second for the next ten of 11 seasons. In her tenure, St. Olaf reached the NCAA Elite Eight three conseutive times from 1995-97 and the '96 team was a semifinalist, capturing third place, the highest in school history.

She began her career at Keene State, where she was head coach for two seasons before spending eight seasons at Bethel. Book eclipsed the 500 career win plateau on Sept. 1, 2000 in a five-game win over Washington Univ. in Indianola, Iowa.

She has coached six All-Americans at St. Olaf, including her coaching partner Traci Cook (then Traci Rasmussen). The Oles enjoyed much success in Cook's time as a player, winning three MIAC titles, going a remarkable 40-4 in league play.

After a one-year hiatus in 2002, Book returned to the St. Olaf sideline in 2003 as Traci Cook's assistant before becoming co head coach with Cook in 2004.

Book received her undergraduate degree from Springfield College, her master's from Keene State and her PhD from the University of Minnesota.

She currently serves as the chair of the exercise science department. Cindy, a native of Woodbury, Conn., and her husband Paul reside in Northfield. Their son Graham is a student at St. Olaf.
