AmeriCorps LEAP (Learning Early Achieves Potential) Visit
Looking for volunteers! Ting Ting will be conducting an information session from 6:45-7:30 in BC 146. To learn more basic information about the program, catch Ting Ting at an information table from 5-6:30 outside Stave Hall.
"United for Kids," "Growing Up Healthy," and "Adult Basic Education" are sponsoring a Somali Family School program to provide Somali mothers and their young children free education. The mothers receive ESL or ELL (English Language Learners) lessons along with Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) to teach the parents how to be their child's first teacher. The young children are given a curriculum focusing on social and emotional development and pre-academic knowledge for school readiness. The site is located at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Faribault, MN on Wednesdays and Thursdays 12:30-2:30pm beginning now to Winter Break and resumes in Spring 2010. A Somali native-speaker is greatly needed.
