Have you been wondering what that new shack is in the natural lands?
As part of a social entrepreneurship grant through the Center for Experiential Learning, St. Olaf now has its very own sugarbush!
This weekend there will be a maple syrup sugarbush tour for the Northfield and St. Olaf Communities. This is the last week of boiling sap this season.
The event will happen rain or shine.
Open house 2-4 p.m. Tours at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Come learn about the history, physiology, process, and culture of Sugarbushing.
Directions: The sugar shack is located by hole 3 of the Frisbee golf course. Walk to the basketball courts behind Hoyme Hall and you will see a grove of sugar maple trees connected by tubing. The shack is not far from there (see the map at the link above). The dorm in the picture is Kittelsby Hall. The road is the Highway 19 entrance. The basketball courts in the upper center are behind Hoyme Hall. The green circle is the sugar shack.
