Technical talk – 4:30pm, RNS 203

The Adobe Image Foundation: Leave no cycle behind Adobe's customers are constantly working with larger images, or more frames. For creative professionals, they are always trying to move more data through our products, and they want to interact with all of it in real time. The Adobe Image Foundation project was created to harness all the compute power in a user's system so that our customers would never need to see a progress bar again.

We utilized SIMD, GPGPU and multi-core techniques, and we created a domain specific language and our own runtime optimizing compiler. Using these techniques we improved performance significantly in multiple releases of Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere and Flash. In this talk, I'll discuss the architecture of the system, the trade-offs we made and the constraints you have when you are building imaging software for professional users.
