Join other Oles and theater enthusiasts for Akvavit Theatre's Nordic Spirit Festival of staged reading. This festival introduces five new Nordic plays —- one each by leading playwrights from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark (all in English translation). Throughout the weekend, Chicago audiences will be introduced to contemporary plays by prominent Nordic playwrights.

Though we invite you to all of the plays throughout the weekend, Oles are especially encouraged to attend on Saturday, October 6, for the Norwegian play "A Summer's Day" by Norwegian writer Jon Fosse and translated by Kyle Korynta ’03, who will lead a discussion following the show.

This new translation introduces acclaimed Norwegian writer Jon Fosse, widely considered to be one of the world's greatest living playwrights, to Chicago audiences with this deep meditation on the nature of loss. A visit to an old friend sparks the memory of a visit years earlier and the mysterious disappearance of a loved one. Set in two time periods in the same idyllic house, "A Summer Day" evokes the nostalgia of the end of an affair, capturing love both in the moment and as a distant memory.

Akvavit Theatre, located at North Park University, Lecture Hall Auditorium (behind the “Old Main” building on campus), 3225 W. Foster Ave., is proud to be presenting this world-premiere translation by St. Olaf alumnus Kyle Korynta ’03, commissioned by Akvavit specifically for this festival.

The Nordic Spirit 2012 Reception Gala will follow across the street at Tre Kroner Restaurant. All Oles are welcome!

Admission to each reading is a $5 suggested donation, or a $20 suggested donation gets a Festival Pass to all five readings. Children and students free.
