The Norwegian immigrants who founded St. Olaf College on November 6, 1874, believed that the open-ended learning of a liberal arts education would enable students to put the work of everyday life into a broader context and become leaders in their communities.
As we celebrate the vision of the founders, it is also fitting to celebrate St. Olaf alumni who are living the vision with remarkable lives of worth and service. Honoring distinguished alumni on Founders Day reminds us that the ideals of the founders live on through Oles around the globe.
Chapel will be at 10:10 a.m., with Samuel L. Hanson ’61, Distinguished Alumni Award winner, as speaker. From 3:30-5 p.m. an open-to-the-public seminar, with all three award winners presenting, will be held in Tomson Hall 280. The day will close with a reception and banquet for the alumni award winners and their guests.
