The most famous book ever written about the most eye-catching topic ever invented, Ovid’s The Art of Love is a three-volume guide to erotic success, instructing its readers how to find, win, and keep a lover. The ironic wit of his nimble and suggestive advice has brought Ovid centuries of popularity, but only now can his poem be appreciated in the form it truly deserves: the limerick. Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics Christopher Brunelle has translated all 2,400 lines of Ovid’s original Latin verse into English limericks, and on Ovid’s birthday (March 20) he will give the first public reading of the world’s first limerepic, Love Is a Rhythmical Art.
