The St. Olaf Band will present "A Fantasia in G," its first program of the academic year on Saturday, October 5th at 7:30 pm in the Skoglund Center Auditorium. This Homecoming Concert is under the baton of Timothy Mahr and will open with his "Fantasia in G," a work written for the St. Olaf Band being presented in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its premiere. The concert will then proceed with compositions by composers whose last names start with the letter G: Percy Grainger, Edvard Grieg, Morton Gould, and Gary Gilroy.

Highlighting the program will be the return of Melissa Morey '00, as soloist on the first movement of the Reinhold Glière "Concerto for Horn." A former member and featured soloist with the the St. Olaf Band, St. Olaf Orchestra, and St. Olaf Choir, Morey is presently a free-lance musician based in St. Paul. She has performed in numerous professional vocal and instrumental groups throughout the Twin Cities region, most notably the Minnesota Orchestra and the Dale Warland Singers. She teaches out of her home studio, serves as principal horn for the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and recently joined the faculty at University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

The concert is free and open to the general public.
