River Doctors: Taking the Pulse of the World's Largest Rivers
Photography by Chris Linder
Assistant curator: John Schade, Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies.

Spring Break (museum closed): March 22 – 30

The Global Rivers Observatory is tracking the health of the Earth’s most significant river systems. Rivers provide a link between the land and ocean. So keeping a close watch on the health of global rivers is a good way to keep an eye on what is happening to our world as a whole.
The Global Rivers Observatory is advancing understanding of how climate change, deforestation, and other disturbances are affecting our rivers and oceans. As the human population approaches 9 billion people, this understanding will be essential as, already, the vast numbers of people depending on rivers are struggling to adapt to the rapidly changing conditions.
