What would it mean for the god of the sea to visit present day Wisconsin? What if Jesus met the goddess of love in a bar? Graphic novelist and artist Anders Nilsen explores stories like these in his new book Rage of Poseidon: Exploring Myth in the Graphic Novel. Similar themes of mythology and religion intersecting with real life inform much of his work from Big Questions to his current graphic-novel-in-progress based on the myths of Sisyphus and Prometheus. He will discuss these ties between old stories and new meanings in his own work and in the culture at large.

Anders Nilsen's visit is sponsored by the departments of Art, Art History, Religion, and the Great Conversation. His work is also made possible by a Minnesota State Arts Board grant.
