Botswana

ACM BOTSWANA - UNIVERSITY IMMERSION IN SOUTHERN AFRICA (SPRING)
This program, associated with the University of Botswana in Gaborone, offers students an opportunity to study and observe a relatively new African nation standing on the shoulders of a much older culture. Classroom work, language study (Setswana), field trips, and independent study are combined with on-the-ground observations and extensive interactions with people. Students have the opportunity to live with a local family.

Ghana

THE COUNCIL STUDY CENTER PROGRAM — CIEE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Sponsored by the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), the Council Study Center in Legon, Ghana is designed for students excited by the opportunity to be at the cultural and intellectual center of a nation in the process of realizing its potential.

Namibia

NATION-BUILDING, GLOBALIZATION, AND DECOLONIZING THE MIND: SOUTHERN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVES (FALL OR SPRING SEMESTER) This program, offered by the Center for Global Education at Augsburg College, examines these crucial issues from the perspectives of the new democracies of southern Africa. Students explore these issues by meeting and interacting with leaders of government and civil society, as well as seeing and experiencing the concrete results of these realities at the grassroots level. A crucial part of the program will be investigating the parallels between these societies and the United States.

Sénégal

CIEE SÉNÉGAL (FULL YEAR OR FALL OR SPRING SEMESTER)
Based at the Baobab Center and the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Sénégal, this program is designed for students who wish to have an opportunity to live and study in a French-speaking West African country. The program introduces students to Sénégal and Sénégalese society in its multiple dimensions and allows them to gain an understanding of issues such as education, women’s roles, traditional ways of life, and the impact of development and globalization.

South Africa

CIEE – SOUTH AFRICA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
CIEE offers two different programs in Cape Town, South Africa– CIEE Arts and Sciences involves direct enrollment in courses at the University of Cape Town. Students live in university residences, student houses near campus, or with a family. CIEE Service Learning is a smaller, selective, fully integrated self-contained program that involves core courses in social development and extensive community service in social agencies or schools.

Tanzania

ACM TANZANIA— ECOLOGY & HUMAN ORIGINS (FALL)
The ACM Tanzania program offers undergraduates an unusual opportunity to conduct fieldwork in some of the world’s greatest paleoanthropological and ecological sites. Students divide their time between the University of Dar es Salaam and the Northern Region of Tanzania. The program is both physically and academically demanding, and only well-qualified students will be selected.

ACM ARTS, ENTREPRENEURSHIP & URBAN STUDIES PROGRAM - CHICAGO, IL (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER)
Students have the opportunity to explore arts, entrepreneurship, or urban studies in depth, or participate in classwork and projects across these disciplines. The program offers an innovative mix of academic work, including an internship, independent study project, common core course about the city of Chicago, and a variety of seminars focused on the arts and creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, and urban studies and social justice. Students explore the vital issues facing cities and the people who live and work in them, while digging deeper to relate these issues to their personal lives, education, and career aspirations.

ACM URBAN EDUCATION (STUDENT TEACHING) PROGRAM - CHICAGO, IL (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER)

On the ACM Urban Education Program, students engage in an urban student teaching experience with support and guidance --- both inside and outside the classroom -- to foster their learning and growth as teachers. Students work alongside mentor teachers in Chicago schools. In the weekly seminar, they connect educational theory to their classroom experiences. Program field trips include excursions such as the National Museum of Mexican Art, the DuSable Museum of African-American history, the Chicago History Museum, or People's Music School. Students live with other Chicago Programs participants in furnished, shared apartments in various neighborhoods throughout the city of Chicago.

DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM, ENGINEERING—UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA OR WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, ST. LOUIS
These cooperative 3-2 or 4-2 programs enable qualified students to earn a B.A. from St. Olaf and a B.S. in engineering from the host university. The 3-2 program includes the senior year and fifth year at the host institution, while the 4-2 version accepts students who graduate with the B.A. Typical requirements are a year of chemistry and calculus-based physics, plus mathematics preparation through differential equations. It is also common for graduating seniors directly to enter a Master of Engineering program; such a course would typically involve 2 years of study beyond the B.A.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: SCIENCE, PUBLIC POLICY, AND COMMUNITY ACTION— HECUA (FALL SEMESTER) Based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, this program addresses key processes of ecosystem degradation and rehabilitation, the social and economic underpinnings of conflict over environmental change, and public policy and community-based strategies that strive toward sustainability. Topics include sustainable agriculture, land use management, watershed protection, industrial pollution, energy projection and consumption, transportation, urbanization, and suburban sprawl.

INEQUALITY IN AMERICA: POLICY, COMMUNITY AND THE POLITICS OF ENPOWERMENT, MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL — HECUA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, this program immerses students in the Twin Cities’ rich heritage of citizen action on local, national, and global issues. Students explore solutions to the problems of poverty and inequality and become engaged in organizations committed to social transformation.

NATIONAL THEATER INSTITUTE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) The mission of the National Theater Institute is to expose young theater artists to intensive conservatory-based training and provide an orientation to the professional theater. After a semester of classes, workshops, theater trips, and special events at NTI in Waterford, Connecticut, students have a sense of the commitment necessary for a career in the theater and a deeper knowledge of their capabilities, their strengths, and their weaknesses.

NEWBERRY SEMINAR: RESEARCH IN THE HUMANITIES, CHICAGO — ACM (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM SEMINAR) One of America’s great research libraries provides the setting and resources for this program. Students attend interdisciplinary seminars taught by visiting professors and have the opportunity to meet with resident scholars and library staff. In the fall, students write a major research paper based on the Newberry’s collections in the humanities. In addition, students may enroll in a one-month seminar in January.

OAK RIDGE SCIENCE SEMESTER, TENNESSEE — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The Oak Ridge Science Semester is designed to enable qualified undergraduates to study and conduct research in a prestigious and challenging scientific environment. As members of a research team working at the frontiers of knowledge, participants engage in long-range investigations using the facilities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), near Knoxville, Tennessee.

THE OREGON EXTENSION (FALL SEMESTER) Set on the banks of an old mill pond in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, this program offers students an adventure in ideas. Using the seminar and tutorial approach, students spend a semester in concentrated study, undistracted by campus life, taking one course at a time. Learning revolves around reading and small group discussions balanced by occasional lectures and individual study projects. Week-long excursions (backpacking in the Sierras, camping at the Oregon coast, exploring San Francisco) separate the course blocks.

WASHINGTON D.C. SEMESTER — THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) In this program, offered in cooperation with The American University, selected students spend a semester in Washington, D.C., studying government in action. They register for a two-credit seminar, a one-credit internship and a one-credit individual research project or course elective. Four course credits are awarded for the 16 semester hours. Course levels are determined individually.

WASHINGTON INTERNSHIP INSTITUTE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) The Institute for Experiential Learning (IEL), founded in 1990, provides experiential education programs and academic-based internships in Washington, DC. For participants with interests in all fields of study, the program consists of two coordinated seminars and a four-day-per-week internship in the executive and legislative branches of government embassies or various organizations related to business, law, and social development.

WRITING FOR SOCIAL CHANGE: THE PERSONAL, THE POLITICAL AND THE POWER OF THE WRITTEN WORD, MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – HECUA (FALL SEMESTER)
This program combines traditional methods of literary and cultural analysis with a balance of creative writing workshops in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. It makes use of HECUA’s approach to interdisciplinary, reflective critique.  The program explores the ways in which creative writers and literature impact communities and examines the role creative writers and literature play in addressing pressing social issues.

SOCIAL CHANGE IN CENTRAL AMERICA: EXPLORING PEACE, JUSTICE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT − CGE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) An intensive semester of study and travel designed to introduce students to the key issues facing Central Americans. Students will explore the life and culture of the peoples of Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, and study approaches towards political and economic development being taken in these countries.

Argentina

ARGENTINA − IES: BUENOS AIRES (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER OR YEAR)
This program, based in Buenos Aires, is designed to increase Spanish language proficiency, examine area studies in a wide range of disciplines, and immerse students in the culture of Argentina. All students enroll in a language course. Other courses are available in Spanish and English. The option exists to participate in a discipline-specific internship seminar.

Chile

CHILE − CIEE: VALPARAISO (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER OR YEAR)
This program, located in a major coastal city, is designed for relatively independent students who seek to matriculate in regular university courses and have a keen interest in contemporary Chilean city life and society. Strong offerings in literature, history, environmental studies, oceanography, and psychology but other courses are also offered. All course work is in Spanish.

Costa Rica

LANGUAGE, SOCIETY & THE ENVIRONMENT — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The fall program is an interdisciplinary program for students seeking a comprehensive understanding of life in Latin America and wishing to develop fluency in Spanish. Focusing on humanities and social sciences, it is designed to take full advantage of its Costa Rican setting. In San Jose and its environs, students live with families both to improve their language ability and to enjoy personal involvement in the daily life of a Latin American community.

FIELD RESEARCH IN THE ENVIRONMENT — ACM (SPRING SEMESTER) The spring program is designed for advanced work in the natural and social sciences. Costa Rica supports an extraordinary variety of plant and animal life and provides rich research opportunities for students of tropical biology and ecology. An equally broad range of research topics is available for students of anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, geology, history, political science, and sociology. Students prepare for their research during a month-long orientation which includes intensive language training and a review of field work methodology.

Ecuador

COMMUNITY INTERNSHIPS IN LATIN AMERICA (CILA) — HECUA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Community Internships in Latin America (CILA) studies philosophical and ideological perspectives of community agencies and groups working with or for low-income and other disenfranchised populations in Ecuador. Internships enable students to apply the results of their learning in making choices about local and global responsibilities, and a required core seminar compares and integrates community-based participation with other models of social change.

Mexico

SOCIAL WORK IN A LATIN AMERICAN CONTEXT— CGE (SPRING SEMESTER) The goal of this program, based in Cuernavaca, is to develop cross-culturally competent, ethical social work professionals with a global perspective by providing a semester of transformative, experiential learning focused on social and economic justice.

Asia

India

CULTURE, TRADITIONS, AND GLOBALIZATION, TILAK MAHARASHTRA VIDYAPEETH UNIVERSITY, PUNE, INDIA — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The Indian subcontinent provides a rich and complex background for the study of a non-Western civilization. India Studies program participants live with Indian host families in Pune, a city that is at once both traditional and highly industrialized, offering students an excellent opportunity to observe the interaction of tradition and modernity that characterizes contemporary India. While there, students enroll at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth for an academic session, where they have language instruction, choose four other courses, and complete their independent study projects.

Japan

HOKUSEI GAKUEN UNIVERSITY SEMESTER, SAPPORO, JAPAN (FALL SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Hokusei Gakuen University (HGUS) is well known for its strong international exchange program with over 30 years of experience in hosting international students. HGUS offers excellent intensive Japanese language courses and various content courses on Japan taught in English that complement the courses offered at St. Olaf College. Additionally, HGUS offers unique extracurricular opportunities for international students ranging from various traditional cultural activities (such as wearing kimono, tea ceremony, calligraphy, and flower arrangement) and other co-curricular activities (visiting local elementary schools and overnight trip within Hokkaido) in addition to opportunities available to all other students (participating in student clubs, accessing athletic facilities, etc.). HGUS also offers homestay experiences.

JAPAN STUDY, WASEDA UNIVERSITY, TOKYO, JAPAN — ACM (FULL YEAR, FALL SEMESTER, FALL SEMESTER AND INTERIM, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Students spend the academic year or semester at Waseda University’s International Division in Tokyo after a brief orientation providing intensive language practice and cultural discussions. In addition to required language study, electives may be chosen from a wide range of Asian studies courses taught in English. A family living experience in Tokyo provides an informal education in Japanese culture.

NAGOYA UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Nagoya University Program for Academic Exchange (NUPACE) is a short-term student exchange program through which students are given the opportunity to study in Japan for a semester or full year. The curriculum consists of Japanese language instruction, Japanese area studies, international/cross-cultural studies, and wide range of courses in the student’s major field of study.

Korea

YONSEI UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Yonsei University, situated on a large, quiet, wooded campus in the heart of Seoul, is the oldest university in Korea. The International Division of Yonsei was created to provide study opportunities for non-Korean students. Taught in English, courses are designed to provide a broad introduction to Korea in its Asian and world setting.

CURTIN UNIVERSITY (SPRING SEMESTER) Curtin University is located in Perth on Australia’s west coast. Instruction is available to students with appropriate backgrounds in any field offered by the university, and students may participate in all of its programs. Accommodations are available on-campus.

UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO, NEW ZEALAND (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
The University of Otago, the oldest university in New Zealand and its foremost research university, is located in Dunedin. Otago offers undergraduate courses in the liberal arts, social sciences, language, literature and performing arts, business and applied, biological, natural and physical sciences. Students may also pursue New Zealand studies in a number of disciplines.

Austria

IES VIENNA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) offers a music program in Vienna specially designed for music majors and other talented instrumentalists and vocalists. Students study German language at beginning or intermediate level and have the opportunity to take courses in music history and music theory. Performance studies are available to all qualified students.

France

LIBERAL ARTS PROGRAMS IN RENNES - CIEE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
The program offers a combination of French language and content courses taken at the Centre International Rennais d'Etude du Français pour les Etrangers (CIREFE) and the opportunity to take regular university courses at the Université de Haute Bretagne − Rennes II (UHB).

Students may also take St. Olaf's French Interim course (French 275: Interdisciplinary French Studies in Paris) and enroll for the second semester in the CIEE program in Rennes.

IES: PARIS (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) Paris program combines a rigorous curriculum of French language study with course offerings in a number of academic areas. This program is of special interest to students of art and art history, since it offers a series of unique courses in those disciplines.

Germany

KONSTANZ, BERLIN, AND FLENSBURG (FALL SEMESTER AND INTERIM, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
Students who have completed German 251 may study for either a semester or a full year at the University of Konstanz in southern Germany, the University of Flensburg in northern Germany, or Humboldt University in Berlin, the capital of Germany. One credit is granted for successful completion of the required intensive language course, held prior to the beginning of the German semester. Up to four additional upper-level credits per semester may be earned from university courses. Most fields of study offered by the universities are open to program participants.

Great Britain

LONDON AND FLORENCE: ARTS IN CONTEXT — ACM (SPRING SEMESTER)
The London and Florence program compares the artistic achievements of two historically prominent cities. Participants study the historical and political context of art, architecture, literature, and theater as well as Italian language. Visits to museums, galleries, theaters, short trips to other areas of England and Italy, and discussions with local scholars supplement the course work. Students spend eight weeks in each city and enjoy a week-long mid-semester break.

CENTRE FOR MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE STUDIES, OXFORD (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students spend a semester or year at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Oxford. Affiliated with Keble College, Oxford, students become associate members of Keble with access to many of its undergraduate opportunities. Courses of study are available in archaeology, art history, studio art, history, law, languages, literature, music, philosophy, politics, and religious studies.

HARRIS MANCHESTER COLLEGE, OXFORD UNIVERSITY (FULL YEAR) A limited number of juniors may spend a year studying at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. Harris Manchester College is situated in the heart of Oxford and its neo-Gothic architecture, faculty organization, and student lifestyle are like those of any other Oxford college. As members of the University of Oxford, students have use of all of the university’s facilities — libraries, lectures, associations, sports. Tutorial instruction is primarily available in English, geography, history, philosophy, politics, religion, and mathematics.

LANCASTER UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students may participate in a semester- or year-long program at Lancaster University in northwestern England, where they are fully participating members of the university community. Courses are available in any field, including arts, natural sciences, women’s studies, and mathematics.

LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE (FULL YEAR) London School of Economics (LSE) provides economics and political science majors an opportunity to study at a leading British University in the city of London. The school is noted for its work in economic and social policy. Its proximity to the London financial markets provides a rich environment for the study of finance.

UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The University of Aberdeen, one of the oldest universities in Great Britain, is located on the North Sea coast in northeastern Scotland. Students may participate in the fall semester, spring semester, or full year program. Aberdeen provides a wide range of departments including law, natural and physical sciences, divinity, arts, and social science.

UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The University of East Anglia (UEA) is located two hours northeast of London near the city of Norwich. Students of junior or senior standing may spend a semester or a full year engaged in study in any one of the disciplines offered by UEA including humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students are full members of the university and are housed in university residence halls.

UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD (FALL SEMESTER AND INTERIM, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students may participate in a semester- or year-long program at the University of Sheffield, England’s fourth largest city, where they are participating members of the university community. Courses are available in biological science, ecology, environmental science, neuroscience, and molecular biology, as well as other fields appropriate to liberal arts students.

Greece

COLLEGE YEAR IN ATHENS (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) CYA focuses on the history, politics, and society of Greece and the eastern Mediterranean region. Its mission is to offer each student the opportunity to experience daily life in a European capital city while providing the academic tools to enable them to understand Greece and the world of the eastern Mediterranean. Students live in apartments in Athens.

Hungary

BUDAPEST SEMESTER IN MATHEMATICS — THE MATHEMATICAL INSTITUTES OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AND EOTVOS LORAND UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Designed primarily for junior and senior mathematics majors, this is a cooperative program with the Mathematical Institutes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest. Students take at least three mathematics courses and one or two intercultural courses.

Ireland

Students of junior or senior standing are eligible for programs at an Irish university.

TRINITY COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF DUBLIN (FULL YEAR) Ireland’s oldest university, founded by Queen Elizabeth I as a training center for church and political leaders, Trinity College numbers many of Ireland’s famous writers among its graduates. It is located in the center of Dublin and offers a great variety in its courses.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) University College Dublin (UCD) is the largest of the three Colleges of the National University of Ireland. Among its more famous graduates is James Joyce. The main campus is at Belfield, about three miles from the center of Dublin.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF IRELAND, GALWAY (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Located in the city of Galway in West Ireland, National University of Ireland, Galway offers a wide range of subjects for study. In the heart of one of the Gaelic-speaking areas of Ireland, Galway provides unique opportunities for contact with both traditional and modern Ireland.

NORTHERN IRELAND: DEMOCRACY & SOCIAL CHANGE — HECUA (SPRING SEMESTER) This program examines the historical, political, and religious roots of the conflict in Northern Ireland, the prospects for peace and the progress being made. The program explores theoretical approaches to understanding conflict and its transformation as well as the processes underway in Northern Ireland to create a stable democracy.

Italy

FLORENCE: ARTS, HUMANITIES & CULTURE — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The Florence program provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in art history, Romance languages, and the humanities to study Renaissance painting, sculpture, architecture, history, and literature. Italian language instruction, a studio art course option, and courses providing a broad perspective on Italian contributions to world civilization facilitate the study of Florentine artistic and cultural heritage. Visits to museums and galleries, short field trips to other cities throughout Italy, and discussions with local scholars supplement course work. Museum internship opportunities for students with at least some knowledge of Italian prior to arrival to the program.

IES: MILAN (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) offers students the opportunity to combine Italian language study with courses in music and musical instruction. Students study Italian at the beginning or intermediate level and have the opportunity to take courses in music theory, a music performance workshop, or courses in other disciplines taught in English.

Russia

MOSCOW ART THEATRE SEMESTER (FALL SEMESTER) In this highly competitive program, daily acting classes in the Stanislavsky System, the Michael Chekhov Technique, and movement classes (including Biomechanics and Ballet) complement voice, design, Russian language, and Russian theater history classes. Students study in the vibrant city of Moscow, visit cultural sites, attend theater productions, and train with master teachers of the Moscow Art Theater School. Classes are held six days a week, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

NOVGOROD STATE UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER) The program at Novgorod State University allows flexible language and culture studies while integrating classes outside the St. Olaf Russian major within a Russian context. The semester consists of two language courses, one culture course, and one elective.

SEMESTER IN SIBERIA, IRKUTSK (FALL SEMESTER) This program at Irkutsk State Technological University (ISTU) offers students an opportunity to study in one of the most important geopolitical areas of Russia, Siberia. Students can combine the study of the Russian language with ethnographic studies, studies of ecology and the environment, studies of religious and cultural minorities, studies focused on nearby Lake Baikal, and studies of cultural and business interaction in Asia.

TERM IN ST. PETERSBURG, ST. PETERSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY — CIEE (FALL SEMESTER) In cooperation with the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) St. Olaf offers a semester program at St. Petersburg University, one of the leading institutions of higher learning in Russia. The 14-week program (late August to mid-December) includes courses in Russian literature, culture, film, grammar, phonetics, conversation, translation, and analytical reading. Lectures include topics from history, political science, art history, and contemporary Russian life. The academic program is supplemented with excursions and field trips, including a trip to Moscow and other Russian cities. The trips are coordinated with the academic program through classroom preparation.

DENMARK’S INTERNATIONAL STUDIES PROGRAM (COPENHAGEN) (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Open to students of junior or senior standing. Classes in the humanities and social sciences, international business studies, molecular biology and genetics, or environmental science of the arctic are taught in English by Danish professors and are integrated with academic field work and study tours. Qualified musicians may also audition to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Students can live with Danish families.

NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NTNU - TRONDHEIM), TELEMARK UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF OSLO, UNIVERSITY OF TROMSØ (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Exchange agreements with these universities in Norway allow students to spend a semester or a full year studying in various disciplines within the liberal arts. These universities offer a range of courses in English.

THE NEW NORWAY: GLOBALIZATION, NATIONAL IDENTITY, AND THE POLITICS OF BELONGING, OSLO — HECUA (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) HECUA Norway introduces students to contemporary Scandinavia, especially Norway, and to issues of the modern welfare state and social democracies through field study of cities, urban planning, and problem solving. The program, based in Oslo, Norway, includes field study-travel to explore the relationship between Scandinavian countries, the emerging democracies of Eastern Europe, and global politics.

UNIVERSITY OF OSLO INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL (SUMMER) The International Summer School in Oslo, Norway, offers a broad program of study on an undergraduate level and some graduate courses. Beginning to advanced Norwegian language classes are also offered. Additional information is available from the International Summer School Office, located on the St.Olaf campus.

SEVILLE, UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLE — CIEE (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The program in Seville assumes that the student has already achieved the capacity to work solely in Spanish. Courses are available in Spanish language and literature, humanities, and social sciences — some through the regular curriculum of the University of Seville. Sophomore standing or higher and completion of Spanish 250 plus one additional course with a minimum grade of B- is required to be considered for participation.

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO (FULL YEAR, FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) Students have the opportunity to take classes, taught in English, from the full curriculum of the university, which is located on a brand-new campus in Cairo. In addition, they can take Arabic language courses. The Zamalek Student Residence or the new campus provides accommodations for Egyptian and international students.

MIDDLE EAST AND ARABIC LANGUAGE STUDIES − ACM (FALL SEMESTER) This program, operated in partnership with AMIDEAST, provides students with the distinctive opportunity to study the complex issues that dominate the Middle East region. All students take Arabic language coursework appropriate to their level of proficiency (prior study of Arabic is not required) and engage in an independent project of their choosing, under the supervision of the visiting ACM faculty member.

Turkey

BOGAZICI UNIVERSITY IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY (FULL YEAR, FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) Bogazici University, one of the most prestigious universities in Turkey, offers courses in English in a variety of disciplines in the arts and sciences. Turkish language study is not a requirement of the program but is strongly encouraged in order to facilitate interaction with the local culture. Students live together with Turkish and other international students in the modern campus dormitory called the Superdorm.
