"Dedication of these magnificent structures marks a grand beginning of a new era of growth for the college.

"The new era of growth I have in mind includes more than the development of physical facilities. It involves a broadening and a deepening, an extension and a quickening of the spiritual and scholarly pursuits of the college.

"In its great and honored past, St. Olaf has emphasized three things: Christianity and the dedication of man to the highest purpose; the Liberal Arts as a training for life; and service to the Church. These great traditions are truly worth preserving. Indeed, our religious ideas must be strengthened and our fine relationship with the church must continue in the years ahead."
