Minutes for November 20, 2007

The meeting was convened at 11:00 in the IIT offices.

Members present: Gary Miessler, Phyllis Larson, Roberta Lembke, and Anthony Becker, chair.

  1. Minutes of the October 30, 2007, meeting were adopted without amendment.
  2. The committee discussed the recent vandalism in the Mohn Hall computer lab and the theft of computers from Rolvaag Library. The committee was advised of IIT’s actions to reduce the likelihood of future thefts.
  3. Roberta presented the fall faculty computing requests; these totaled over $72,000. Based on department priorities, the committee approved requests for nearly $40,000 of computers, peripherals, and software. The committee also determined that if bids for equipment are below the planned costs, as many as two additional requests will be filled.
  4. The committee discussed IIT’s plans for adoption of Office 2007 and Windows Vista. Neither will be adopted in the near term due to compatibility concerns and licensing costs.

The next meeting was scheduled for November 27, at 11:00 in IIT offices.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:00, noon.
