- Discussion of Nursing Proposals. David Booth, Chair, led a discussion of issues CEPC would want to discuss with Rita Glazebrook later in the meeting. Glazebrook arrived at the meeting at 3:45 and gave her overview of the process that led to the proposals. The discussion that followed included:
In response to CEPC's questioning whether more classes be opened to non-nursing majors, Glazebrook talked about the combination of theory and clinical in the classes and stated that they are always taught from the "nursing aspect" and would be inappropriate for non-majors.
In response to CEPC's concern about adjunct instructors (CAI's), Glazebrook talked about the hospitals that have already agreed to be part of the program, the success of similar programs, and the incentive for the hospital as well as the adjunct nurse. She expressed that she has high hopes for the local nurses as well (LAI's).
Glazebrook discussed the need for the immersion program the Fall semester of the student's junior year.
The Committee reaffirmed its opinion that the Nursing Program is consistent with the goals of the liberal arts education as practiced at St. Olaf.
- Booth talked about the process that follows for CEPC: to construct a green sheet with the Nursing proposal and attached classes for approval.
Meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
