CEPC Minutes for December 14, 2005
Present: J. Beld, K. Chadwick, M. Cisar, J. Dietz, A. Hanson, T. Hauger, M.S. Lovett, C. Swain
Despite snow squalls the meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m.
- The minutes were amended and approved.
- Announcements: Dietz laid out CEPC's general agenda for Feb. 2006.
Feb. 8 - New Course proposals;
Feb. 15 - Meeting with GEC; and
Feb. 22 to revisit the proposed GEC requirement for AQR.
- Most of the meeting was devoted to the discussion and clarification of the GE Guidelines for BTS-B requirement. Dietz and Lovett reported on their meeting with the Religion Department and that department's reactions to the current drafted document. Beyond some editorial changes, alterations were made to make the course guidelines more parallel with its outcomes and the overall new style of the GE descriptions. These amendments will be forwarded to the Religion Department and then readied for green sheeting in Feburary.
- Other business: Cisar brought up the issue of WRI - the current offerings offered by the college, the prospect of certain faculties who teach areas of the GE curriculum deciding not to offer WRI, the possibility of reducing the required number of WRI courses, etc. The committee discussed ways we might take up the problem, including using the data collected by TEAGLE and NSSE studies to inform our work and to bring up the issue when we next meet with GEC.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:55.
Respectfully submitted,
Alice Hanson, Secretary
