  1. Call to order:

    - Chair Dietz called the meeting to order at 3:18.

  2. Approval of minutes from 2/28/07:

    - The minutes from 2/28/07 were approved with modifications.

  3. Announcements:

    - Chair updated the committee on plans for a possible college shut-down in the event of a pandemic event. CEPC would be responsible for addressing the academic issues that might arise. It was decided that a working group should be formed that represents critical elements of the college. CEPC discussed faculty and staff that might be appropriate to serve on this committee.

  4. Quick Items:

    - Psychology major : Information was brought forward to the committee regarding changes to the biology requirement for the psychology major. Two additional courses were identified as being relevant to the major because they provide laboratory experiences in semester-long courses.

    - Statistics concentration : Chair Dietz discussed this concentration with the committee and ways to make electives in this concentration more flexible, particularly for math majors seeking to add the statistics concentration. CEPC approves the removal of the requirement of mathematics 262 and statistics 322 for this concentration.

    - Ideal course description was discussed and approved.

  5. Selective admission policy:

    - Proposed modifications made to the draft policy of 1/16/07 were presented by Chair Dietz and discussed by the committee. These included limiting the policy to on-campus courses only, allowing selective admission in special circumstances where exceptional student ability is necessary, and where parallel learning experiences may exist. Concerns of fairness and equal opportunity for all students were discussed. CEPC will green-sheet this for the April faculty meeting.

  6. Music double degree option:

    - CEPC discussed a proposal from the music faculty for a double degree option. It was indicated in the proposal that such an option already exists, but with few references to this option in any college literature. It was suggested that some language clarification needed to occur in the proposal. It was also suggested that a rationale for the proposal should be added.

  7. Registrar’s business

    - FOL transfer credit : Mary Cisar discussed the need to clarify the foreign language transfer policy. The policy was reviewed by the committee. It was requested that a rationale should be added to the language of the document.

    - 5-day examination period : Options for a change in the examination schedule for next fall were discussed. Issues related to reducing the period to 5 days were discussed by the committee. The proposal will be discussed at the next CEPC meeting.

  8. Adjourn :

    - The meeting was adjourned at 4:45.
