CEPC Minutes 11/8/2006
Members present: Dietz (chair). Ananda-Owens, Carullo, Cisar, Gross, Lind, Lovett, McClure
- Call to order: Chair Dietz called the meeting to order at 3:18
- Approval of minutes from 11/1/06
- Minutes from 11/1/06 approved with minor revisions.
- Announcements.
- Chair Dietz reminded the committee that we will revisit multi-cultural studies at a future date.
- Chair Dietz discussed the examination policy issue that was discussed in the November faculty meeting. The most recent language proposed by CEPC will be circulated by RPC. Background information and rationale related to the proposed language will be included.
- Chair Dietz reminded the committee that we will revisit the grading issue at a future date.
- Further discussion of the Family Studies proposal.
- Chair Dietz summarized our discussions from last week regarding the Family Studies proposal. Committee members agree that the major should be discontinued and a new concentration formed. Discussion continued about flexibility within the program, and the size of the concentration, particularly if and/or how it could be reduced. Chair Dietz will communicate committee suggestions to the faculty associated with the Family Studies proposal.
- Discussion of changes to the Week One schedule.
- Cisar communicated to the committee regarding discussion of changes to the Week One schedul. The Week One committee is examining what issues are relevant to beginning students during Week One, and that there may be more appropriate times to expose our first year students to in-depth information about majors. Discussion continued.
