Minutes of the May 1, 2007 GEC meeting
GEC members present: Sherry Saterstrom (chair, FA), Karl Fink (HUM), Elizabeth Leer (SSF), Anne Sabo (IGS), Kathy Shea (NSM), Solveig Zempel (Associate Dean, IGS), Erica Jaastad (student).
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
Minutes from April 24 were approved.
Paul Zorn visited to help explain the justification for the certification of courses for AQR.
The committee considered the following certification and re-certification proposals and took the indicated action.
Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
Action: approved for AQR.
Interdisciplinary Studies 249, Mare Balticum
Action: approved for HBS and HWC
Art 251, 252, 253
Action: approved for HWC
Jo Beld visited and we discussed the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools assessment progress report. The accreditors concluded that St. Olaf had not made sufficient progress on assessment and will need to submit another progress report in 2010. We discussed how to show that we are using assessment data to inform academic decisions.
GEC will meet again on Tuesday, May 8, and continue the discussion of use of assessment data.
