Academic Computer Policy BoardMeeting of October 25, 2001
Present: Bob Jacobel, Roberta Lembke, Dolores Peters, Barbara Reed
At this first meeting of the ACPB for the '01-'02 academic year, Roberta distributed copies of the ITT June 2001 Annual Report and discussed highlights. Among several items the committee noted was the addition of a third T-1 trunk connection to our Internet provider in Minneapolis, this one a land-based cable link. As anticipated, the additional bandwidth was immediately utilized and ITT (and this committee) will be looking at future options as Internet use on campus continues to increase. Roberta described the newly installed campus-wide web-based calendar software and the need to make its availability more widely known. The Committee discussed revisions to update its charge "Purpose and Responsibilities" posted on the IIT Website. Since this document is also in the Faculty Manual, changes will need to occur there and Delores will investigate how the Manual is being revised. We briefly discussed results of the faculty survey of computer use completed last spring and Roberta will have more for us on this soon. Roberta passed out a sheet with an overview of IIT capital and operating budgets and expenditures to date. She noted that IIT will (at last) be getting an administrative assistant later this fall. The meeting concluded with a look at potential issues for the year. Included among these was IIT space reorganization and possible consolidation, bandwidth as noted above, future directions for academic computing related to the faculty survey, and the need to complete a long-range plan document.
Respectfully Submitted - Bob Jacobel 10/25/01
