Community Time Proposal

Re: Community Time Recommendations

As instructed by a motion adopted by the faculty at the March 6, 2003, faculty meeting, the chairs of CEPC and RPC convened a task force to evaluate the impact of Community Time on the life of the college. We have received a report from that task force. The full text of the report will be made available electronically.

Consistent with recommendations from the task force, and upon further recommendation from CEPC, at the March 4 Faculty meeting we will present to the faculty four alternatives regarding the future of Community Time. We will move that the faculty vote by the method of "approval voting" for any of these four alternatives (each faculty member will vote for as many of these alternatives as he or she approves of).

1. That Community Time continue indefinitely as presently configured - a one hour period inserted into the daily schedule following chapel on each Thursday that classes are in session to allow for the monthly faculty meeting and other events for the good of the community ("Proposal 2" from the Task Force recommendation).

2. That Community Time be abandoned (with the consequence that faculty meetings will once again be held in the evening).

3. That Community Time be changed from a once weekly event to a once monthly event that replaces chapel time and slightly expands that time to allow for the monthly faculty meeting ("Proposal 1" from the Task Force recommendation).

4. That Community Time be changed from a once weekly event to a once monthly event that follows chapel time to allow for the monthly faculty meeting.

Consistent with the motion adopted on March 6, 2003, the results of this vote will constitute a recommendation to the Dean and President regarding the continuation of Community Time.
