Item P: Joint Statement of Departmental Expectations

1. Individuals who have access to this item:
- All members of each department, including the candidate
- For tenure cases only (see #4 below), all those granted access to the dossier:
- The initiator
- The Associate Dean
- Members of the Tenure and Promotion Committee
- The Dean of the College
- The President
2. Participants in preparing this item, and role of each participant:
- Chairs of each department – Collaborate in preparing the document.
3. Guidelines and suggestions:
- The document should indicate the joint expectations of the candidate’s two departments for the candidate’s teaching, professional activity, and service. It is assumed that it would be impossible for a candidate to meet full expectations in any one department, and that a candidate needs to know what will be expected by each department.
- The document is submitted to the Office of the Dean upon completion and is incorporated in the dossier for reference by the reviewers of the dossier.
- This document is not intended to have a role past initial tenure stage. It is not included in dossiers for promotion of tenured faculty (in particular, for promotion to Professor).
- This document is intended to supplement, not replace, each department’s Statement on Significant Professional Activities in the dossier.
