The "N" Word"

Members of the student organization CUBE, Cultural Union for Black Expression hosted a discussion about the N-word titled: "N***a Please!: Can we really reclaim the word?" on Tuesday, November 17th at 7:30 pm in the Gold Ballroom. They explored many different aspects of the word's usage, meaning to and affect on the community (locally, nationally, and internationally).

Africa Weeks

Members of the student organization, Karibu, will host events celebrating African Culture from November 9-22. Events include the Opening on November 9th at 5:30 in Buntrock Commons, Documentary Film, "What Are We Doing Here?" at 3pm in Viking Theater, November 21st, and the Closing Banquet, November 22nd at 5:30 pm in Valhalla.

 

Multicultural Alumni in the News

Robert Green '77 lives in the 9th Ward in New Orleans, Louisana. Below is a picture taken in 2008 which won an award on the Pictures of the Year website. Click here to view more photos. He has been featured in newspaper articles and on many news programs. Robert spoke on his experience in Viking Theater Wednesday, November 4th at 7:00 pm.

"Searching for Solace - Katrina Survivor" Draped in his mother's casket flag, Robert Green, Sr. stands on the steps that once led into his mother's Lower 9th Ward home in New Orleans, which was directly in the Industrial Canal breach during hurricane Katrina. Green's mother died while clinging to the roof, and his granddaughter perished in the floodwaters.
