National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP) offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical behavioral, and social science health-related research. The NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers up to $20,000 a year in scholarship support, paid research training at the NIH during the summer and after graduation, and intensive mentoring, research experience, career guidance, and skill development. UNCF/MERCK Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship is open to African American juniors majoring in biological or chemical sciences who are enrolled full-time in any four-year college or university in the U.S. This award provides scholarships up to $25,000, two summer internships with stipends totaling more than $10,000, mentoring by a Merck scientist, and membership in the Association of UNCF/Merck Fellows. Awards are made based on GPA, demonstrated interest in a scientific research career and the ability to perform in a laboratory environment. Application deadline is December 1, 2009.
