Purpose and Criteria
Criteria
- Strong academic record
- Commitment to, or interest in, exploring the higher education teaching profession
- First year or Sophomore status; Juniors and Seniors will be considered in the first year of the Program, but the emphasis of the Program is on underclasspersons
- Referred by a faculty member or submission of letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member
- Completion of Program's formal application
Selection Process
All applications will be reviewed by the Selection, Oversight, and Monitoring Committee, which is comprised of faculty and staff.
Activities/Services Provided
A broad range of services will be provided and activities organized to address the needs and interests of students at the various stages in their academic careers. These will include:
- Career exploration workshops (focused on higher education)
- St. Olaf's recent graduates panel (comprised of Ole's pursuing doctoral degrees)
- St. Olaf faculty panel (discussing their higher education career paths)
- Graduate School selection process workshops
- Graduate School application/admissions process workshops
- Graduate School standardized admission tests preparation workshops
- Field trips to explore graduate programs
- Financial assistance in the application process (based on need)
- A St. Olaf faculty mentor for the last two years at St. Olaf and first three years of graduate school
