There is always the possibility that there will be changes, additions, and deletions, depending upon schedules of speakers, agency programs, and those leading the program.)
Friday  January 3

      4:00 a.m.  Arrive at the Minneapolis to meet the group in ticketing area across from Delta ticket counter;
                      Your tickets will be at the airport
      5:40 a.m.  Leave Minneapolis Airport, Delta #751,  from Atlanta Delta  #519
    12:51 p.m.  Arrive in Mexico City International Airport
                        Exit customs, turn left, meet under Alamo sign, group will take airport taxis to:
                        Hotel Bamer, Ave. Juárez 52, Centro (tel. [011 52]  55 5521-9060)
       2:30 p.m.  Comida together, Hotel Bamer
       3:00 p.m.  Orientation meeting, Hotel Bamer
       4:00 p.m.  Visit downtown area including Mercado Balderas
                        Students draw names, buy small present for dinner exchange
       7:00 p.m.  Dinner together, exchange gifts

Saturday  January 4

      8:00 a.m.  Breakfast, Hotel Bamer Rooftop Restaurant
      9:00 a.m.  A Brief History of Mexico, David Brye - Read Introduction in "There's a word for it...."
    10:00 a.m.  Leave for the Museum of Anthropology
    10:30 a.m.  Tour of Museum of Anthropology with Guide Paco Grajales and
                       Lunch at Museum of Anthropology Cafeteria
      2:00 p.m.  Tour Chapultepec Park, Castillo etc.
      4:00 p.m.  Return to Hotel Bamer
      6:00 p.m.  First Impressions: Discussion and Feedback
      7:00 p.m.  Dinner
      8:30 p.m.  Musical or play (optional); not included in program expenses

Sunday  January 5

      7:30 a.m.  Breakfast, Hotel Bamer, all luggage packed
      8:00 a.m.  Presentation and discussion about Mexican Social Services led by Naurine Lennox
      9:00 a.m.  Leave Hotel Bamer for Basilica of Guadalupe
    12:00 p.m.  Arrive Teotihuacan Archeological Site; REMEMBER SUN SCREEN & Hat
                      lunch will be sandwiches, fruit, etc. on the bus
      3:30 p.m.  Leave Teotihuacan for Puebla
      7:00 p.m.  Arrive in Puebla, David Brye Residence, 4 Oriente 204
                       Puebla Centro ( tel. [011 52] 222 232-6710)
                       Meet homestay families, Partir la Rosca
                           small gifts for members of the family are appropriate and remember to bring your photo
                       book that includes your family, roommate at St. Olaf, house, pets, town square (zocalo), etc.

Monday  January 6

      9:00 a.m.  Arrive D. Brye residence; families and program assistants will help you find the way.
                      Orientation meeting: Social Work Placements
    10:30 a.m.  Visit Museo Amparo and leave from there to explore Pueblo Centro with Puebla students.
      1:30 p.m.  Return to David Brye Residence and leave from there to families for comida
      4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon
                      Note: on this first day several of the group will help prepare for the party at Juconi on
                                Tuesday; some of these will continue as volunteers at Juconi; others will go to
                                 volunteer placements which will be available on Wednesday.

Tuesday  January 7

            9:00 a.m.  Mexican Politics and Society – D Brye Lecture:
          10:30 a.m. Visit Instituto de la Mujer Poblana
          12:30 p.m.  Visit PREVIO, A Program for Women and Domestic Violence/
                                   Programa de Deteccion de Menores Violados
                             Director: Carolina O'Farrill
            1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
          4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon
          6:30 p.m.  Casa Juconi, Join market and street kids in celebrating Three Kings Day

Wednesday  January 8

    10:00 a.m.  Visit Casa de Angeles, DIF Center for Handicapped
    12:00 p.m. Visit La Granja, Centro Tutelar para Infractores Menores
      1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
      4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon

Thursday  January 9

      9:00 a.m.  Visit Secretaria de Salud del Estado de Puebla (pending)
    11:00 a.m.  Visit Caritas Third Age Center
     1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
      4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon
      7:00 p.m.  Feedback on program and practicums at D. Brye Residence

Friday  January 10

      9:00 a.m.  Prostitution and Transgender Issues, Alexandra Fonseca
    12:00 a.m.  Test
      1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
      4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon

Saturday  January 11

                         Spend the day with families and
                         Personal time (sleep, wash clothes, write journals, etc.)
         7:00 p.m.  Ballet Folklorico, Patio del Palacio Municipal, Zocalo
                          The group will attend and then go to the house afterwards for an alcohol-free
                           party and learning some latino dances - salsa, cumbia etc.
         8:00 p.m.  Reception: St. Olaf College Students and San Miguel Tzinacapan
                           students in Puebla, David Brye residence

Sunday  January 12

    11:00 a.m. Tour Puebla Centro, observe Sunday activities
      3:00 p.m. Picnic lunch, D. Brye residence

Monday  January 13

      9:00 a.m. Mexican Barrios (local communities) and Urban Renewal, Nancy
                           Churchill  Tour of San Francisco area, Analco Barrio
    11:30 a.m. Optional visit to CISIDA - Puebla AIDS assistance; other organizations
      1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
      4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon

Tuesday  January 14

       9:00 a.m.  Mexican Prison System, Heriberto Galindo
     11:00 a.m. Visit the Women's Section of the Puebla CERESO
                      ( Centro de Rehabilitacion Social) - volleyball game
       1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
       4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon

Wednesday  January 15

            9:00 a.m.  Mexican Education, Programs for Migrant Children, Maria Luisa Flores
          11:00 a.m.  Visit Casa de Sal, AIDS Organization with Sara Breidenbach
            1:30 p.m.  Return to families each day for comida
            4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Social work placements each afternoon

Thursday  January 16

       9:00 a.m.  Role of Women in Mexico, Elena Maria Valerde

                          Interchange with preparatory (high school) students

     6:00 p.m.  Dinner and presentation on Bilingual, Bicultural Education for Rural,
                      Indigenous Communities by Miguel Felix, Gudelia Martinez and Porfirio Ortigoza
     8:30 p.m. Peña Folklorico (Voladores)

Sunday  January 19

   11:00 a.m.  Nahuatl Mass, San Francisco Church,  Cuetzalan (Required as a cultural experience)
                        Enjoy Cuetzalan Sunday Mercado
     1:30 p.m.  Leave for San Miguel Tzinacapan
     2:00 p.m.  Comida: casa de Luis and Celina Felix, Getting to know the village

Monday to Friday, January 20 to 24

                Monday morning at Telesecundaria for opening exercises; donations of school supplies welcome
                Tuesday morning at Casa de Salud, Primaria and Pre-Escolar; donations are also welcome
                Monday to Friday, everyone paired up with local young people
                    to investigate local topics and institutions, other group meetings
                Social service projects, home visits in San Miguel each afternoon

Saturday January 25 to Monday January 27

               Acapulco Visit, chartered bus from Cuetzalan to Acapulco,
                      Acapulco to Mexico City
              (leave Friday night, return Monday afternoon)

Tuesday January 28

    10:00 a.m.  Leave for U. S. Embassy on Avenida Reforma
    11:00 a.m.  Visit US Embassy, Presentation from USAID staff
      2:00 p.m.  Visit Frida Kahlo and  Leon Trotsky Museums in Coyoacan
      7:00 p.m.  Farewell Dinner

Wednesday January 29

    10:00 a.m.  Visit Diego Rivera Mural (Alameda)
    11:00 a.m.  Visit Bellas Artes Museum (Mexican muralists, etc.)
    12:30 p.m.  Visit Rivera Murals in the National Palace
      1:00 p.m.  Comida, Zocalo area
      2:30 p.m.  Visit Templo Mayor
      4:00 p.m.  Visit Cathedral
      5:00 p.m.  Return to Hotel Bamer
      8:30 p.m.  Ballet Folklorico, Bellas Artes (optional)

Thursday, January 30

       9:00 a.m. Breakfast in the Hotel Bamer Cafe at your leisure; you may sleep in, finish papers,
                      do a little last minute shopping, etc.
                     Note:  There will not likely be any food served on the airplane.
                      Lunch and dinner both come during our travels. There are fast food places in the
                      Atlanta airport, but It is recommended that you consider your needs and perhaps
                      pack some food for the trip.
     11:00 a.m. Leave Hotel Bamer for the Mexico City Airport
       2:20  p.m.  Departure for Minneapolis via Atlanta, Delta 522/756
       9:44  p.m.  Arrive Minneapolis Airport
