Presentations:

The presentation is 10% of your grade, and can be from 10-15 minutes long. You will be graded on your ability to speak clearly, organize your material and present it in a coherent matter, and handle questions afterwards.

To prepare your presentation, develop a 5-6 page version of your final paper (assume just over two minutes per double spaced 12 point font page). Articulate your thesis, then prove it. If you are writing historiography, discuss the state of the field. If you are doing a research paper, lay out that research and give us your conclusions. However, do not sit with your face in your paper just reading. Speak to the class!

The goal of this assignment is not only to test your public speaking skills, but also to give you a dry run on your ideas before your class. You will receive feedback on the presentation from me and your peers, and you can use that feedback while developing your final draft.

Handouts (which I can photocopy), powerpoint, or web images are fine if you need them, but are by no means mandatory.

Finally, your class participation grade for the last two weeks will heavily depend on the extent to which you engage with your peers' presentations and ask good questions.

The History Department Picnic is on May 15th at 5:00, please come. Class will start at 8:00
