Course Description

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the principles of American constitutional law as well as the political struggles that shaped them. We will focus not only on constitutional doctrine, but also on competing interpretations and political effects of landmark decisions. In this course we will emphasize debates over civil rights and civil liberties that have been central to Supreme Court jurisprudence.

If you encounter difficulty with the readings or the assignments, please do not hesitate to speak to me after class, during office hours or arrange another time to meet. You may also want to take advantage of Academic Support Center if you have a learning disability or the Writing Place if you would like help with your writing (x3288).
