There are no independent or dependent variables with this project because
the question regarding American women’s migration experience to Canada
during the Vietnam War is not a causal question; rather, the question looks
at relative experience. The study will mainly rely on a micro level
of analysis, drawing on personal narratives and accounts to determine the
individual immigration experience. However, a mezzo level of analysis
will also be utilized to examine the communties that American exiles
bring with them or leave behind.
Both qualitative and quantitative empirical evidence will be sought to
determine the experience of American women migrants in Canada during the
1960's and early 1970's. Statistics on American emigration to Canada
during this period will be used. For the most part, though, this case
study will rely on qualitative empirical evidence. As stated above,
personal narratives will be used in order to support observations based
on the empirical evidence. After several referrals, I was able to attain
an original person account from an American woman who migrated to Canada
during the Vietnam War. This project will focus on those issues raised
in the original narrative.
