What is ARMS?

“American Racial and Multicultural Studies (ARMS) is a program committed to the study of racial and cultural diversity within the United States. The major introduces students to the cultures, histories, and experiences of African Americans, Native Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, and people of Middle Eastern decent.  Courses concentrate on the cultural contributions of these groups, their interactions, and on the conflicts that arise from cultural differences.  Immigration, both historic and contemporary, represents a significant focus of study, as does the experience of systematic discrimination.  The ARMS program is interdisciplinary, with faculty from many different disciplines helping students integrate multiple perspectives on the issues raised in courses.”
