What is Buckthorn?

A short message from Gene Bakko Buckthorn
After development, invasive species represent the next biggest threat to our natural ecosystems.  Here at St. Olaf College, we have been doing buckthorn control off and on in our wooded areas for the past 15 years. In order for this control to have a chance of being successful, it is necessary for the general public to be aware of invasive species, such as buckthorn, so they too can help eradicate seed producing trees on their properties.  Consequently, it is with enthusiasm that I endorse the Northfield Buckthorn Art Project in its goals to both raise awareness as well as make a concerted effort to actually get the public involved in buckthorn control.
