The Flaten Art Museum in the Dittmann Center

The Flaten Art Museum, located in the Dittmann Center at St. Olaf College, exhibits shows of regional, national, and international significance. The extensive permanent collection includes traditional and contemporary textiles, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and works on paper from various regions of the United States and Western Europe, particularly Norway and Eastern Europe. We invite you to explore our visual libraries of ideas that provide perspective on human experience through research and discussion, reflection and enlightenment.

T H E   D I R E C T O R
JJill Ewald serves as Director of Flaten Art Museum at St. Olaf College, where she is also an assistant professor of art. She earned a B.A. from St. Olaf College and a M.F.A. in visual art from Vermont College.

Ewald has exhibited at Minneapolis Institute of Arts, several colleges including St. Olaf College, Central Lakes College, Mankato State University, North Hennepin College, St. Cloud State University, and the Rochester Art Center in Minnesota; the Plains Art Museum in North Dakota; and galleries in Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Vermont. She is represented by Circa Gallery in Minneapolis.

Ewald has received cash awards and juror's awards, as well as Career Opportunity Grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council. She served on the Artists Panel, MAEP, Minneapolis Institute of Arts and is a member of the Association of College and University Museums and Galleries; the American Association of Museums, and the Upper Midwest Conservation Association. She has experience as artist-in-residence and regularly serves as juror, critic, and lecturer in painting and on Museum issues.
