Gross, an authority on child development, has been a member of the faculty since 1988. The previous director of the college's Linguistic Studies concentration, she has worked with Jian-Hong Wang of Nanjing Normal University on a study comparing Chinese and U.S. school children's understandings of "apology and the time course of emotion." She earned her B.A. degree from Smith College and her Ph.D. from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota.
